"Year Zero" is a song by Ghost. The track was released as the second single to Infestissumam, the band's second studio album.
Background and Release[]
Tobias Forge claimed that Year Zero and Zenith are the only Ghost songs that were not completely written by him; they were instead ideas by Martin Persner, or more commonly known as Omega, Ghost's original rhythm guitarist. However Forge did write the lyrics, as well as arranging and giving instrumentation to both. A Nameless Ghoul has said that the ominous outro of the song is intended to emulate what it might be like to hear a satanic ritual through the walls.[1]
on March 12, 2013, Ghost provided fans with free streaming of the song if they promoted them on Facebook, by endorsing its frontman, Papa Emeritus II, to be elected as the next Pope of the Catholic Church. The 10" vinyl version of the single includes the track "Orez Raey" on the B-side, which as the title suggests, is Year Zero played backwards.
The single's cover art is an homage of John Martin's famous engraving, "Satan Presiding at the Infernal Council".
Music Video and Recording[]
A music video for the song was revealed on March 25, 2013. The video was directed by Amir Chamdin. A censored version of the video was uploaded to Ghost's official YouTube channel two days later. The song was present in the Ceremony and Devotion live album and was in the Rite Here Rite Now movie, but not the soundtrack.
