"Secular Haze" is a song by Ghost. The track was released as the lead single to Infestissumam, the band's second studio album.
Background and Release[]
The band created the SeclularHaze.com website on December 14, which contained a sound clip of a new song without vocals. On the page there was a clock ticking counter-clockwise and five candles, each candle playing one element of the song when the user hovered their mouse over it.
The next day, the band uploaded a song onto their official YouTube channel, also called "Secular Haze". They also played a special show at their hometown of Linköping in Sweden. They performed the whole Opus Eponymous record, and after finishing Genesis, the vocalist Papa Emeritus disappeared into the night, and a new vocalist, Papa Emeritus II, emerged from the darkness and preformed the new song, as well as a cover of ABBA's I'm a Marionette.
Music Video[]
The song's music video was released on February 19, 2013, on Ghost's official YouTube channel. It was directed by Amir Chamdin, and recorded in Linköping. The video depicts the band in all their unholy glory performing on a stage, and the style of quality and the set's design is reminiscent of a 70's television show. This aesthetic was achieved by director Chamdin's prior experience in recreating "retro" aesthetics, and the usage of an actual old reel camera from the 70's that the band had obtained from an old TV studio.[1]
